Philip Smith's practice has emphasis on civil litigation including toxic torts, products liability, personal injury, wrongful death, labor law, admiralty, medical malpractice. Mr. Smith has also developed a successful appellate practice.
During law school, Mr. Smith served as law clerk for Administrative Law Judge Joan Myers of the Mississippi Gaming Commission. He also assisted Hinds County, Mississippi, Attorney S. Malcolm O. Harrison in the prosecution of misdemeanor offenses under the Mississippi Limited Practice Act. His externship experience was furthered as law clerk for both the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office, Regulation and Enforcement Division, and the Hinds County, Mississippi, Board of Supervisor's Attorney's Office. Following graduation, Mr. Smith served as law clerk for the Honorable Marcus D. Gordon and Honorable Vernon R. Cotten of the Eighth Judicial District Circuit Court of Mississippi.
Philip is admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is also admitted to practice before all Mississippi state courts as well as the United States District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Mississippi and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. Additionally, Mr. Smith is admitted to all Louisiana state courts and the United States District Court for the Middle, Eastern and Western District of Louisiana.
